Description

“IRL”, as in “in real life”, depicts a scenery familiar to the approximately 8 million people who used to fly on daily bases. Through thick plexiglass the same view reveals itself every single time — an almost biblical and cartoonish panorama of clouds and changing landscapes. This spectacular, yet commonplace display of a gradient sky accompanied by an aluminium-grey wing indicates a lifestyle we started to define as accessibility. Behind the apparent calm used to lie bewildering thoughts and existential reflections on the environmental shifts of present times, now taken over by a longing for elsewhere. The motionless arrangement of organic objects in nature morte seen from the window of a plane have become to represent privilege and longing, a self created sense of freedom in its entire absurdity.

This detail-rich picture has been hand-knotted by craftsmen in Nepal.
