Description

Éritaj Kontré is born from an « unexpected collision » between Faïencerie Georges in Nevers (France), whose heritage lies in the hand-made decoration on raw enamel, and basket weaver Gérard Ako, who weaves objects from coconut palms in Guadeloupe (French West Indies).

By combining these two forms of savoir-faire, dach&zephir creates a new shared story about french handcraft, and a new rise to traditions that seem to fade away in our society.
The original decors of Nevers earthenware — representing French bourgeoisie scenes or chinoiserie — are substituted by Caribbean life scenes about the economy of coconut in Guadeloupe. Those modest images — taken from old postcards and daily scenes — speak about another part of the French History in the West Indies, that has to exist when we speak about an idea of « French culture ».

The result is a collection of three pieces presenting three different ways to shape this association of crafts.

Since 2016, Florian Dach and Dimitri Zephir form the duo dach&zephir: a design studio based in between Paris and Guadeloupe, transforming History, habits and cultural contrasts into objects. They met in 2012 at École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (EnsAD), Paris, where they obtained their masters degree in Product Design with honors in 2016. Their diploma project "La figure de l'Autre" (the figure of the other) was presented during "Révélations" at the Grand Palais in Paris. The subsequent field research "Éloge Créole"
was featured at Operae independent design festival 2016 in Torino (Italy) and at Onomatopee Project Space in 2018 (The Netherlands). In 2017 dach&zephir was selected by Lidewij Edelkoort and the Carpenters workshop Gallery in London as one of the fifteen emerging talents of European design with their work "La Gargoulette".
