Conceived as textile pottery, “A rope in the shape of a vessel” reflects on form and matter, on the power of the abstract image of the object, which remains in our memory irrespective of the material with which it is made. During the creative process, the qualities of the object and its materiality are explored, while looking for new plastic possibilities of the cotton rope.
“A rope in the shape of a vessel” claims the use of a humble material and a simple process, while exploring its potential. With a single repeated stitch and delicate hand gestures, the pieces are molded in a process that reminds us of the ceramic coil technique. By joining the rope, the thread leaves its trace, creating a texture on the vessels surface.
Each vessel is unique and different due to the handmade process. Designed and made by Cristina Vallejo.
