Biography |
Dorian Renard has developed a practice that oscillates between a fascination for materials and their mediated meanings. Through a sculptural and experimental approach freely seeking the limits of the material, Dorian’s work challenges our perception of materiality in a sensitive yet conscious way. Driven by an exploration of the subversive use of crafting techniques, he has developed a distinct language that bears the signs of being shaped by human hands.
It's during is graduation show in 2019 from the Design Academy of Eindhoven that he presented for the first time his collection : The Beauty of Distortion
By showing how materials (acrylic) can be altered through subversive use of crafting techniques, which melt, blow, stretch and bend what we think the material is into a new, elegant distortion of what it could also be :
A new notion of beauty, one that is alluringly twisted, warped and bent instead of industrially morose.
