Although her studies led her to sculpture, Martine Myrup now works mainly in textiles, creating both sculptures and unique functional objects. Her "Elusive Owl/Myrup" textile products and projects are made exclusively from recycled second-hand fabric, which she found, bought from charity shops, or which was given to her. Due to the nature of her source material, she embraces irregularities and imperfections and incorporates them into her designs, making the former life and function of the fabric absolutely integral to her works. Leftover fabric from larger projects is recycled in smaller works or patchwork, keeping waste to a minimum. The aim is to extend the life-span of each bit of textile used, transforming the original items into something new and unique.
