Description

The series of “Wall Jewels” by Ela Cindoruk is a continuation of the designer’s interest in geometric patterns from traditional sources, which she adapts to contemporary design. Cindoruk originally used the lace patterns of paper doilies for the jewelry designs of her Istanbul-based jewelry line ECNP. In 2014, she extended this strategy to interior design with the “Wall Jewels” series of unique brass wall decorations. Each of these “Wall Jewels,” produced using a combination of laser cutting and hand fabrication, is a unique object that transforms the doily patterns into metal at a larger scale, and brings dynamic geometric accents to interior environments.

Profile Photo
Ela Cindoruk
Born in Ankara in 1963, Ela Cindoruk is one of Turkey's leading contemporary designers. She is a partner of the ECNP jewelry studio and gallery in Istanbul, which she co-founded in 1993 with Nazan Pak. Following her studies in New York, she returned to Istanbul in 1988 and initiated her life-long interest in the intersection of craft, pattern and materials, adapting the traditions of  Istanbul's jewelry craftsmen to her own modern aesthetic. Her experiments in jewelry design have sought to expand the vocabulary of jewelry through the use of non-standard materials such as paper and plastic, combined with precious metals and composed in original forms. She has had a continuing obsession with patterns, which can be seen in jewelry and decorative objects that transform the patterns found in traditional paper doilies.
