Description

For “Perspectives,” a small-scale edition of lights/mirrors, a two-Watt LED light is mounted between an assembly of regular and one-way mirrors, producing a collection in which the light effect is amplified along different vanishing points. When the light is turned off, each mirror works as a regular reflective surface, thus fully mirroring the surrounding environment. When the light is turned on, the one-way mirror becomes partially transparent, amplifying the light burning steadily between the inner facing surfaces.

The designer

Profile Photo
Gionata Gatto
Gionata Gatto (1982) is an Italian designer living and working in The Netherlands. After receiving his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from the IUAV University of Venice, he continued his studies with a Master at Design Academy Eindhoven, graduating in 2009 and opening his own studio. His work embodies a continuous investigation into materials and production processes, mediated by the use of emerging technologies. The projects his studio produces emerge as the result of a participatory research method that winds through collaboration across different research areas, to breed a territory of trans-disciplinary synergy. From the active phase, the studio derives a series of artifacts and installations that perform as perceptual bridges to generate — through the instruments of the present — visions about speculative future scenarios. The studio’s works have been exhibited globally on the occasion of several events, hosted by the Triennale di Milano, Spazio Rossana Orlandi, Sotheby’s, and Maison & Objet, just to mention a few. In 2014 the studio was moved from Eindhoven to Rotterdam, where Gionata currently lives and works.
