Analogia Studio’s “Booming Vases” are the result of a collaboration with master ceramist Alessio Sarri. The aim of these objects is to explore two opposite essential elements of our existence: air and matter, which respectively embody fragility and power. Following an experimental methodology, pure geometrical shapes of white refractory ceramic were exploded when still fresh, and then left to dry and then cook, following a traditional ceramic process. The moment of explosion is therefore fixed in the matter, resulting in a block of colored ceramic that reveals its intimate white texture. Ettore Sottsass defined “wrong ceramic” as ceramic works that he produced using unconventional materials and processes. “Booming Vases” follow suit: they were made without thinking about the material’s limits, but rather by trying, testing and establishing new cause-and-effect relationships. The result demonstrates, at the same time, the matter’s heaviness and fragility.

Analogia Project
Analogia Project is the result of a collaboration between designer Andrea Mancuso and architect Emilia Serra, who met as students at the Royal College of Art, London, in 2010. Mancuso has extensive experience with design products, both on one-off and large-scale production, and his visual language is marked by a sense of irony and surprise. Serra, meanwhile, devoted time during her studies to the combination of 3D technologies with traditional craftsmanship, seeking to validate and strengthen both techniques. Together, the design studio they created is interested in exploring the forms and gestures of everyday, and transforming them into something awe-inspiring.  They take off from entities that are normally taken for granted, giving them new life by experimenting with both traditional techniques and contemporary digital technologies.
