Description

“Alocasia,” created in Rotterdam Charlois by Netherlands-based WANDSCHAPPEN studio, is a sculptural object that sits on the cutting edge between Art and Design. Inspired by the contours of traditional plants often found sitting on Dutch window sills, works in the “Alocasia” collection are made from pure new wool, and they are color fast and fire retardant. Every handmade work, which is therefore entirely unique, comes with a care manual and an adoption certificate. In the words of the designers: “You feel at home, where you grow your own plants.”

Wandschappen
As visual artists, design duo Nicole Driessens & Ivo van den Baar have developed a wide range of artworks inspired by their environment, in Rotterdam Charlois: their house and family, their street, their neighborhood and their city. In 1999, they founded the design company WANDSCHAPPEN, and they have been producing and developing their projects in their studio — all of which are based on their visual art concepts — since 2009. Their love for textiles, handiwork and craft has lead to high-quality handmade designs in textile, painting and photography, which they show and sell worldwide, the best-known of these including the Felt Plants, Felt Vases and Felt Wall Objects collections. They are strongly connected to a large group of artists, designers and craftsmen working in the surroundings of the studio, all of whom are involved in the production and presentation of their works.
